International Platforms features in the latest edition of Cranes & Access Magazine

In a recent in-depth interview with Cranes & Access magazine our MD, Vicki Allen, was asked for her opinions on the state of the used MEWP market and what businesses should look out for.

You can read the full interview with Vicki (p53-55), as well as her comments on the benefits of buying used access platforms. (p48-51) by clicking on the button below.

Why buy a used access platform?

When we spoke to Cranes & Access, they asked us why access equipment users might choose to buy used rather than new kit. We suggest there are these good reasons:

·        It is more cost effective on the initial outlay

·        You get a better return on your investment

·        Currently, used machines are more readily available

·        It offers more flexibility in between busy and slower times as there is not such a heavy financial burden

·        They can also be traded or swapped for another machine if your fleet mix needs to change

What is going on in the MEWP supply chain?

We are often asked if supply chain issues might have increased demand for used equipment, rather than buyers deciding to wait for new equipment. In our experience, the current lead time issues have certainly had an effect on the used equipment market both in terms of demand and supply.

Supply is more limited as new deliveries are delayed, limiting the release of older machines for resale. Demand has also increased as companies need to add or change their model mix to suit customer needs.

Can users rely on used MEWPs?

We take steps to ensure the quality of used equipment, and, if relevant, of any repair or refurbishment services.

International Platforms sells equipment in many different standards as we sell to many different types of customers. Most importantly we endeavour to fully understand their expectations and then ensure we meet or exceed them.

We service and LOLER many of our machines and sometimes choose to fully refurbish and repaint units before offering them for sale. We use a small number of carefully selected partners to assist with engineering and refurbishment work required, and monitor the work closely to ensure that every element is addressed to achieve maximum customer satisfaction.

We also work with a network of independent engineers across the country should a machine need attention in or out of warranty to support the customer quickly and cost effectively.

We believe in being able to offer a full range of services to meet all customers budgets and requirements. It is also important to be honest, and sensible with our pricing and are happy to guide customers through their purchases with sensitivity and respect.

What is different about International Platforms?

When interviewed, we were also asked to explain why International Platforms is in a good position to comment on the market for used MEWPs.

As we speak (October 2021) we have been trading for 18 months and have already become known and respected for our work with used equipment sales and purchases.

We are a genuine one-stop solution for many rental companies who are looking to get the best and most flexible deal for the used equipment they need to move on. We work with suppliers and manufacturers on small, medium and large quantities of machines and sell widely abroad as well as in the UK. About 50% of our sales are abroad.

Jade Allen, the sales manager at International Platforms (previously of AFI), has grown our contact base substantially and is becoming well respected in her own right for prompt response and dedicated customer service.

    A final note from Vicki:

“After nearly 20 years in the industry, I still love every day and am passionate about what we do, relishing in the ability to “make things happen” and “do things right”. Our customers and suppliers come back and use us time and time again and that tells me we are getting it right!”
