Is it a good idea to buy a used access platform

What would you like to know about buying an access platform?

If you have never bought a used access platform before and are considering your first purchase, thinking about repairs and maintenance, or if you would simply like to know more about International Platforms we hope you’ll find the information you need on this website.

Here are some of the most common things we get asked but if you can’t find the answer you’re looking for here, please do call us on +44 (0) 333 0064277 or email sales@internationalplatforms.co.uk.

  • What is a LOLER certificate?

A LOLER certificate is a document that certifies that the aerial platform has undergone a thorough examination and is safe to use. The certificate is issued by our CAP certified engineers who have the knowledge, skills and experience to carry out the examination. The certificate signifies that the MEWP meets the standards of the Lifting Equipment Regulations (1998). So if you buy a powered access machine from International Platforms with a LOLER you know it’s safe and ready to use.

  • How to do I choose the right powered access machine?

We have over 20 years in the powered access industry so you’re asking the right people for help. We’ll ask you questions like “will you use the machine inside, outside or both?”, or “do you prefer electric, diesel or bi-energy power?” or “are you looking to go directly up, or up and over something?” and most importantly, “what height do you need to reach?”. If you don’t know the answer to these questions then we can work together to work it out. We can come to you and do a site survey too if needed.

  • Is there a warranty on used powered access machines?

If you’re buying a used aerial platform ‘as is’ that is without a service and test, then there is no manufacturer’s warranty. However International Platforms is pleased too offer a 30 day warranty for all used aerial platforms that have been inspected and tested by ourselves, from date of despatch.

  • Can you show me how the aerial platform works?

We can give a demonstration of the aerial platform at our depot in Doncaster or organise a handover and familiarisation session if we’re delivering it. Another alternative is we can set up a video call to show you the aerial platform’s functionality and features. Some manufacturers also have video guides available online that you can watch too.

  • What are the delivery options when I buy powered access from International Platforms??

We work with you to ensure you benefit from safe, cost effective and efficient delivery of your used MEWP. We can quote for, then organise the delivery of your powered access machine with one of our approved haulage companies. Alternatively you can arrange to have it collected yourself.

  • Do you have a loading ramp?

Yes we have a loading ramp suitable for any machine under 10T. We can help keep your transport costs down and avoid using expensive low loaders. The ramp means we can load curtain sliders, containers and flatbed lorries quickly, efficiently and cost effectively.

  • Can MEWPs be delivered internationally?

International by name and international by nature! Yes, we can certainly ship aerial platforms abroad. We are experts at export and send powered access machines outside the UK almost every week. We can arrange all the customs paperwork (that’s the tricky bit) and the shipping. Alternatively we can work with your own agent if you prefer.

  • Do you do general aerial platform repairs and fix breakdowns?

We have qualified and reliable engineers located all around the UK to cover call outs, breakdowns and any site visits needed. We will assess the work required, provide you with a quote and once approved we can action the work quickly and get your aerial platform back into a serviceable state ASAP.

  • Do you service aerial work platforms?

International Platforms does service machines. Some clients as for machines to be serviced on an ad hoc basis but most commonly people opt for an annual contract that covers all service work and includes the two legally required thorough examinations. If you commit to an annual service agreement this qualifies you for discounted call out and repair rates throughout the year.

  • What are the expected lead times on a used MEWP?

Lead times on machines vary depending on where the machine is. But on average if the machine is in our depot is can usually be despatched in a few working days or up to a week maximum. If the machine is out in the field we may need up to two weeks to pull it in, but it’s usually quicker, then about a week to prepare it for you.

  • What payment methods do you accept?

The answer is really straightforward. We prefer payment by bank transfer, either directly from yourself or your finance company.

  • Do you sell new aerial platforms?

Absolutely! We do sell new aerial platforms and because of our extensive knowledge of all the various products and brands and our many years of experience in the powered access industry we’re perfectly placed to advise you on the best new powered access machine for your needs. Also, we have no bias or allegiance to any manufacturers.
